This intro class is designed to give a basic overview of DEI concepts such as the dimensions of diversity, DEI in the workplace, and more. DEI 101 is recommended before diving into a specific topic, but not required!
Participants will discuss the difference between cultural competence and cultural humility, define their individual and collective cultural identities, and learn strategies for cultivating cultural humility in the workplace.
Participants will discuss microaggressions and the harmful effect of stereotypes, and engage in scenario-based thinking about how to handle microaggressions in the workplace.
Participants will discuss privilege, power, and marginalization, reflect on their own relationship with privilege, and create a plan on how they can use their privilege to create a positive impact.
