Who is the host for this experience?

This experience is created and led by passionate Black educators who wanted to bring their cultural and historical knowledge to audiences across all demographics. Because we work with a handful of vendors, we will not be able to confirm the specific vendor until after booking.

Can I request a specific host?

We are unable to guarantee certain hosts for Boom Box: Cookout Edition, as their booking is dependent on availability. Please drop a note in the 'special requests' section when booking, and we'll do our best to make it happen. Either way, we promise you'll have a wonderful experience with any of our vetted hosts!

How does Boom Box work?

Boom Box: Cookout Edition has 5 rounds. For the first 4 write-in rounds, each team will discuss and record their answers on a digital answer sheet provided at the start of the game. For the final lightning round, participants will use a digital buzzer to buzz in and answer on behalf of their team.

How does this experience change when it's run as a hybrid event?

**Structure of the game:** For the hybrid option, there are only 3 write-in rounds, no buzz-in round.

**Randomized teams:** In-person participants will self-organize into teams! Your host will help explain this on the day of your event. While those in-person folks are organizing themselves, your host will randomly assign any virtual players into teams by using breakout rooms via Zoom. Everyone will play Boom Box: Cookout Edition together in the same room!

In the event that there aren't enough virtual or in-person participants to form their own team, teams can consist of a mix of both, using their shared communication tool for discussion.

**Tech setup:** For in-office participants, we recommend using a shared projector screen or TV setup, so at least one computer is needed to connect to the Zoom! All participants will need a phone to access the shared communication tool to ‘whisper’ and discuss their answers amongst their team, and team captains will use their phones to submit answers on behalf of their team.

That being said, if folks are in different rooms or simply spread apart enough, teams can omit using their phones to whisper with one another - only the team captain would need their phone to submit answers.

What communication tool do you provide?

For teams that don’t have a shared communication tool, we provide a [web chat alternative](https://tlk.io/). On the day of the event, your host will create and distribute chat links to participants via [Google Sheets](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1hFC0hOfa9OJCSdxUlBg46rhIWmdp6PGjofZLUSzg14U/edit#gid=0). No download required!

Please make sure to select the chat links option if you need an alternative provided. In addition, let us know if your company has any firewall restrictions or if you are unable to access the links above.

**Note:** We do not provide a shared communication tool for hybrid events.

Is this game work appropriate and international friendly?

Though the music is mostly based on American hits, the majority of songs and artists chosen are popular and recognizable to many groups! Rest assured, all music is workplace appropriate. 🤘

Can I select the music for this? What genres are included?

Accepted Answer

Boom Box: Cookout Edition has already been curated by our game experts, and covers a variety of genres - from classics to today’s hits!

Question 8

Can we create team names?

Accepted Answer

Yes! If selecting ‘choose your teams’ for your team assignment, we provide a sign-up sheet to fill out your players’ names and team name ahead of time. If selecting ‘randomized’ as your team assignment, team names will be decided on the day of the event once teams are created!

Question 9

How many winners are there? Can we award prizes?

Prizes are **not** included or required for Boom Box: Cookout Edition. You're welcome to source your own prizes, just keep us posted in 'special requests' so our hosts can announce it. There will be one winning team with between 3-5 players depending on final headcount.
